This route meanders through woodland and across open moor providing spectacular views from higher ground, especially from the ruins known as North America. There are some steep climbs so this walk will appeal to the more adventurous walker. Boots are recommended. The walk is 3 miles long. | ||||||||

Access We've a car park at Langsett Barn 1 on the A616 where there are public toilets including facilities for the less able. | ||||||||

Route The walk starts from a gap in the wall in the south-west corner of the car park point 1 via short walled section of footpath into the wood, after a short distance the path divides 2. Take the left fork going down hill. Follow the clear way marked path descending towards the reservoir. At another post, 3 turn right and follow the path along the lower part of the wood with the reservoir on your left. The path continues straight ahead for approximately 0.6 miles parallel to the reservoir. It then rises a little to the right, passes through the gap in an old stone wall and continues to a T-junction with a wider lane 4. Turn left downhill to Brook House Bridge. Cross the bridge, go through the gate and follow the path close to the wall up hill on the edge of the wood. The route now enters open moor following a well-defined path up an easy slope 5. After the first quarter mile of moorland, look for a ruined wall on the left at an angle. Where this old wall crosses the path, turn left at the waymarker post. Follow this path over the moor towards the ruin of North America 6 pass the ruins and go through the gate in the wall. Follow the wide track downhill with a wood on your left and across a bridge over an inlet to the reservoir 7. Continue on the track through another gate 8 and immediately take the footpath on the left alongside the wall. Follow this path through the wood up hill to meet a surfaced track at 9. Turn left down the track to the public road and turn left. Follow the road (beware of traffic) crossing the dam of Langsett reservoir by the footpath. At the northern end of the dam 10 turn left on a wide path alongside the spillway follow this fenced track into the wood. In 100m at a junction just before a fence turn sharp right up the way marked footpath with seats passing through an ‘A’ frame barrier, back into the car park.
