Route

From The Sands 1 turn right and head for the footbridge and ford but do not cross the river, instead walk up the stream on the flagged riverside path to the next bridge. Cross here and go up the steps on the far bank to a stile in the wall, bear left after the wall, up five more steps and then forward up the enclosed path alongside a field to a public road at point 2. Cross straight over a road and continue uphill close to the right hand edge of the next two fields. Continue up the next narrow field on an obvious path, a few metres away from the left-hand wall, to the gateway at the top and up the next field with the wall on your right heading for the church tower. This brings you to a gate and the churchyard. Turn right along the lower side of the church to the main gates.Turn left (uphill) for just a few metres, then left again over stone steps on to a path running at higher level through the churchyard point 3. Continue ahead close to the wall to the edge of the wood 4.

In the wood, turn half right on a path which soon starts to descend slightly - beware of the very steep drop on the left.  After 320m, note a stone wall coming down the hillside. Turn left between stone posts where this wall meets the path and walk downhill alongside the wall. Go through a kissing gate at the bottom, cross the stream, the path then curves left to become a walled lane.  At the end of the left-hand wall there is a field gate and a smaller wicket gate.  Turn left there, through the gate on to a clear path going down the wood to a public road at point 5.

Now, turn right along the road to a large gateway on the left and turn left through a stile at point 6 into the wood and follow the path along the waters edge. The path eventually turns left by a Nature Reserve sign and crosses the bridge over the stream, Agden Dike, at point 7. After the bridge the track becomes a path, winds uphill through mixed woodland and in 200 yards comes out into a more open area and then to a T-junction with a walled lane point 8.

Turn left along this lane, over a bridge and follow it to the public road.  Bear left along the road as it descends towards the reservoir. Walk on the right so that you can see the traffic coming which is closest to you. Stay on this road, point 9, for about a third of a mile, passing the end of Agden Dam on the left until you come to a T-junction. Turn left downhill to the first bend in the road and turn left returning to the car park.
