Route

Leave the car park at Scar House point 1 and cross the dam.  At the northern end of the dam turn left following the track that runs parallel to the north shore of the reservoir through sheep pastures at point 2. Continue straight ahead to the ruined hamlet of Lodge. (Note the alternative waterside path for this section is shown pink on map). At a ‘T’-junction beyond the ruins turn left along the walled lane and through the sheep folds at point 4, look for a ladder stile on the right by a gate. Climb over the ladder stile into a rough pasture with a wall on the left, cross a step stile in a fence and follow the well defined path  through a couple of gates, over a stream in the bottom of a gyhll to the northern end of Angram Dam at point 5.

To continue the circular walk of Scar House cross Angram Dam.  At the southern end, point 6, turn left following the tarmac access road along the southern side of the reservoir through the pedestrian gate at point 10 back to the car park at Scar House.

To tackle the walk around Angram Reservoir, continue on the track past the dam, through a gate and along the northern side of the reservoir. The track eventually peters out and a waymarked rough moorland path continues parallel to the reservoir to point 6. Here you turn sharp left downhill to cross the infant River Nidd using the bridge over the small dam and up the steep steps on the other side.  At the top turn left and follow the waymarked path around the edge of the land lying between the two arms of the reservoir point 7.

Cross over a stile to the footbridge over Stone Beck at point 8. This area is prone to flooding and is very rough. Cross the bridge and turn left, again wet and rough underfoot, to join an unsurfaced track uphill to a gate with a stile at the side. Follow this track crossing a bridge over the by-wash channel along a hard track between the channel and the reservoir.  Cross a metal vehicle bridge over the channel and follow the track up towards a gate with a stile at the side at the southern end of Angram Dam at point 9. From here follow the tarmac access road along the southern side of Scar House Reservoir through the pedestrian gate at point 10 back to the car park at Scar House.
