Route

Leave the car park on Redmires Road opposite the upper reservoir via a small gate point 1 on the eastern side and turn left up the walled grassy track.  The walk soon leaves the wood onto rough pasture with a wall on the right.  This well-marked path continues for three quarters of a mile with one stile along the way to cross a catchwater channel where there is a second stile at point 2. (Please note: the path along the catchwater can form a short loop back to Redmires if needed). Follow the path straight ahead over the moor to a junction of paths where the main road, along the valley has just come into view.  Walk straight on descending into the valley to the bridge over the stream at point 3.

Do NOT turn right down the near bank of the stream but cross the bridge and continue a few metres before turning right on an obvious path through the wood with the river on the right.  This brings you to a stone bridge where you leave the riverside. Climb to the end of the bridge and turn right over it onto a stoned lane - Wyming Brook Drive at point 4.

Follow the lane ignoring a couple of paths off into the woods. After three quarters of a mile the lane divides, take the left fork which descends gently with glimpses of Rivelin Upper Dam through the trees on the left.  Before long a small stream comes into view close to the lane on the left.  Just before you get level with this, turn right onto a signed path via a kissing gate set into the right-hand wall at point 5.  (If you want a good look at the lower dam, walk forward 30 metres or so on the lane to a point near where a brook enters the dam.  A gap in the trees here makes a fine viewing point, then return to the kissing gate at point 5).

From the kissing gate head up the path climbing through the woods with Wyming Brook always close by.  The path climbs for half a mile before entering a glade.  Keep the stream on your right (do not cross the stepping stones) walking straight ahead to come to a tarmac road at point 6. Turn left and then take the first road to the right.  Pass a farm entrance on the right and very soon after turn right over a stone stile onto the walled path.  Pass through 2 small gates a short distance ahead and continue forward to the stone stile in the wall and along the slightly raised path through the wood.

Go over the stone steps in the next wall into an enclosed path, turning right down the slope to its junction with an internal access road at point 7.  Turn right along the surfaced road passing between two buildings to a T-junction.  Turn left heading up a gentle slope towards a large building.  At the gateway in front of this, turn right onto a grassy, fenced path leading to the wood.  Bear left at the edge of the wood and follow the obvious line through the trees to a stile leading into Redmires Road at point 8.  Turn left along the road back to the car park at the start.
