Route

Start from the roadside parking area at point 1 and cross the wall via the stone stile at the side of the gate on Dale Road and follow the track through the wood to point 2. Take the left fork following the public right of way down to the stream – Dale Dike. Cross the bridge over the stream and follow the path up the slope past the end of the dam and a building to the finger post and a stone stile in the wall at point 3.

Here the public right of way turns left over the stile, with the Yorkshire Water permissive reservoir path continuing straight on along the reservoir edge. Follow the path to the head of the reservoir join the public right of way and continue to the footbridge at point 4. The public right of way crosses the footbridge but this walk turns right to another footbridge 5. Follow the path through the wood. This section of the path undulates and can be quite wet in places; care should be taken when walking.

Continue along the path with the reservoir on the right to the northern end of the dam point 6 through the kissing gate. Go round the edge of the wall, through another kissing gate and follow the track back to point 2. Cross over a stone stile and complete your walk by heading back to Dale Road at point 1. Another access point is available at point 7 on Mortimer Road, follow the track down past the house then take the path between the farm track ahead and the track towards Strines Dam down to the bridge at point 4, cross the bridge, turn left and over the bridge at point 5 and continue to point 6 on the map. Here take the track descending to the right and follow the instructions above from point 2 onwards to point 4 and return to your car on Mortimer Road.
