Yorkshire Water Recreation   Accessibilty  |  Legal

Only available in Yorkshire.

Yorkshire has an enormous amount on offer with sweeping valleys, tranquil waters and woodlands teeming with wildlife.

As one of the region’s biggest landowners we think it is only fair that such areas of natural beauty are made accessible to everyone.

To help you get out and get active we've introduced an assortment of exciting activities at sites across the county for adults and children of varying abilities.

Lace up your walking boots, pump up the tyres on that bike and brush the dust off that old fishing rod and come and experience the great Yorkshire outdoors.

Podcasts

To enrich our visitor experience we've developed a collection of unique podcast guides for our walks. You may well recognise some of the voices too!

Some of Yorkshire's most familar names including Gaynor Faye, John Craven, Harry Gration and Nell McAndrew have recorded a podcast for us.

The guides are packed full of information about the wildlife you may encounter on your route and the history of the reservoir and surrounding area.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see a list of the podcasts available.

You can download as many of our podcast files as you like directly onto your computer and then transfer them onto your MP3 player to accompany you on your walk by following these simple steps:

1. Download the MP3 audio files onto your PC
Downloading the audio files will depend on the set-up and settings of your computer.  Select a podcast walk from the list below, the podcast files will be listed at the bottom of the page. Hover over the file you want to download so that it is underlined, click on your mouse using the button on the right-hand side and select one of the save options from the list i.e. Save Target As or Save Link As.  You will then be prompted to define where you would like to save the audio file on your computer - this might be a podcast folder for example that you have already set-up.

2. Download the MP3 audio files from your PC to your MP3 player
Now that you have saved the audio files on your computer you will now need to use your MP3 software (i.e. iTunes) to download the files from your computer to your MP3 device.  Please refer to your MP3 player’s user guide for instructions on how to do this.

3. Listen to your MP3 audio files using your default media player
Before downloading the audio files onto your computer you may want to simply have a listen.  By clicking on the file using the left-hand button on your mouse, the MP3 file will usually play.  Your default media player will open and the file will start playing automatically.  The file can then be saved using this software.  Please note: you may not have a media player installed, if this is the case you will not be able to listen to the files before downloading them.

Before you embark on your walk armed with your podcast you will require the appropriate map which will show you where the podcast points are along your route and tell you when to press play on your MP3 player.  These can be printed by clicking on the ‘View this route pack’ link on any of the podcast walks.
